I was asked to make a quilt for my hairdresser's mother. Her birthday was this past week and she is a 13-year breast cancer survivor. My hairdresser left it completely up to me on how to design the quilt. Here is the final product:<br />

The pictures are a little dark but the background is actually white. My husband was gracious enough to hold up the quilt while I took pictures.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-73062126938400586942012-06-08T10:57:00.000-04:002012-06-08T10:57:26.714-04:00Need More Hours or Days or Something...Howdy! I know its been awhile since my last post but I honestly have a good excuse this time. :) I've decided to finish my Bachelor's Degree and am now taking online classes. It's been a little rough getting back in to the swing of things, since it's been a few years since I've taken college courses. This coupled with being out of the house more than half a day (work and commute) doesn't leave much time for my beloved quilting. But I am excited about my recent purchase; Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggy0yRzU1Pqh3aYOOlq2AiSJVnFN_n0oJ4RJHiVt8i2wqEVy1xXcex4yW3jk96mMYc3D-BlswL3zNERbGK2jGkBBsiIKsmCbKsM7OhI8-Ov48LjorBc4LnsAoCo41uFYyAn38e6iB4e25V/s1600/flea+market+fancy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggy0yRzU1Pqh3aYOOlq2AiSJVnFN_n0oJ4RJHiVt8i2wqEVy1xXcex4yW3jk96mMYc3D-BlswL3zNERbGK2jGkBBsiIKsmCbKsM7OhI8-Ov48LjorBc4LnsAoCo41uFYyAn38e6iB4e25V/s320/flea+market+fancy.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
I am so glad she decided to reissue this beautiful fabric because I missed the original legacy prints. My first two classes are nearly over and I am attempting get into a routine where I can get back to quilting. I do miss it dearly.<br />

This patience this is not as hard as I thought (at least this time it isn't). Next comes putting the rows together for the quilt top. That should take place this weekend. But for now here are the rows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ_FUMOpOrHGbSWZqpOGDU-YvB19Y1dQhQKopycjyHgb6PgUv834osbD6wDWj9_zhaYaeEYphTc65PP_ASuUFRwv7X_DjkAsipKCvmtA-e-ZotVVoRvQNVqPGH_zUF4Lm98jtmbYB_Keui/s1600/Small+World+layout.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ_FUMOpOrHGbSWZqpOGDU-YvB19Y1dQhQKopycjyHgb6PgUv834osbD6wDWj9_zhaYaeEYphTc65PP_ASuUFRwv7X_DjkAsipKCvmtA-e-ZotVVoRvQNVqPGH_zUF4Lm98jtmbYB_Keui/s320/Small+World+layout.png" width="313" /></a></div>
<br />ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-6609253476225940072012-01-30T14:44:00.001-05:002012-01-30T14:46:45.742-05:00Patience...I'm sure all of you have heard the 'patience is a virtue' a positive trait. Well in an attempt to be a more positive person, I thought I would teach myself a lesson in patience. Not sure I picked the correct quilt to practice this on but, what heck, you gotta start somewhere.<br />
<br />
Previously I found myself hurrying through one project, to get it finished so that I could get to the next, which resulted in seams that didn't match up and things not exactly square. This caused a great deal of frustration and because I didn't want to get stuck with a UFO, I just wanted to get it done.<br />
<br />
The quilt I chose to do is "Small World" from the book Transparency Quilts. There is 110 pieces to this quilt not including the skinny blue sashes, each one cut individually. Cutting them individually (and accurately) took some doing. Here are some of the 'oatmeal' fabrics I chose.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVHwA7ScsE1GsYAfIe2fF_KLAs4zCVCSPLVygHkctWnWiVJrQGqI2Ff2Pj9Oj0FaeyUSl-lm8wl7QmTMDf5E4bYDOowCMQmVjMCx4MQwwy1O-reFL0c-5Kl1shzj5V7yb68h9G3RSuO1qg/s1600/Oatmeal+fabs.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVHwA7ScsE1GsYAfIe2fF_KLAs4zCVCSPLVygHkctWnWiVJrQGqI2Ff2Pj9Oj0FaeyUSl-lm8wl7QmTMDf5E4bYDOowCMQmVjMCx4MQwwy1O-reFL0c-5Kl1shzj5V7yb68h9G3RSuO1qg/s320/Oatmeal+fabs.png" width="288" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
These fabrics were not as difficult to chose as the fabrics for the center. That part took a lot of 'auditioning'. Here are some of the center fabrics with the blue sashes in between.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKEfHzU7nPjpwX-_5K9HnYjJxALm17dY5SXmflbY6GaiTM73r04Mnn0KK9vjlQ7W_BnV5te912kSCYhXwJ4dLkMAK9NIwLwfYoE8Y9gWRc-wBkYG2U5NVcEgfwTQucD9JOOJ0TlvKefT0w/s1600/Stash+fabs.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKEfHzU7nPjpwX-_5K9HnYjJxALm17dY5SXmflbY6GaiTM73r04Mnn0KK9vjlQ7W_BnV5te912kSCYhXwJ4dLkMAK9NIwLwfYoE8Y9gWRc-wBkYG2U5NVcEgfwTQucD9JOOJ0TlvKefT0w/s320/Stash+fabs.png" width="241" /></a></div>
<br />
I also slowed my sewing/piecing speed down, which seemed to pay off. Look straight, 1/4" seams....yaaayyy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnsJU-P0GIsL_UPn9UyASMbdVS66E7PIeh3nXzFrgphr6j-bIUlmFZmFJv5jONZ8EkNFxD0p4O-0GOhRHsjP9AVHhEl_Wj6x0ev7lHbkwff05-_mC6at5be8fhK9qQ736jr4NZiJFXnfMk/s1600/quarter+inch.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnsJU-P0GIsL_UPn9UyASMbdVS66E7PIeh3nXzFrgphr6j-bIUlmFZmFJv5jONZ8EkNFxD0p4O-0GOhRHsjP9AVHhEl_Wj6x0ev7lHbkwff05-_mC6at5be8fhK9qQ736jr4NZiJFXnfMk/s320/quarter+inch.png" width="309" /></a></div>
<br />
Next comes, sewing the individual pieces into rows. We'll see how far I get tomorrow.<br />
<br />

Some may be perfectly happy where they are and didn't want to offend. I learned quite a bit about family this past year and about the saying 'family is as family does'. I recently reconnected with some people that treated as good as any blood relative could, but because of misunderstandings we had been separated for awhile. It was wonderful to get to know them again and I am very blessed to have them in my life.<br />
<br />
I only crafted a few gifts for Christmas this past year and here they are...<br />
<br />
Hand made notebooks for my son and his girlfriend.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WOInXzbywV4/TwNhrT6ziJI/AAAAAAAAAJo/nWVJLhzWUPU/s1600/Notebooks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WOInXzbywV4/TwNhrT6ziJI/AAAAAAAAAJo/nWVJLhzWUPU/s320/Notebooks.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I modified a couple of notebook versions I found out on the web, mainly because I like the look of the slanted pocket. The left side is for loose papers. There is a pen holder in the middle and the right side is for legal sized notepad.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zZYPvv2KVFk/TwNifCgYgWI/AAAAAAAAAKM/Ih2vOU0WPp0/s1600/Notebook-pitt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zZYPvv2KVFk/TwNifCgYgWI/AAAAAAAAAKM/Ih2vOU0WPp0/s320/Notebook-pitt.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And finally I made a baby quilt for my nephew Gabriel...<br />

A period of self discovery that does not seem to be going so well. This person does have a lot of people that are willing to help them but I wanted to let them know how much I love them and that they will be welcome to return home. Here are the smaller starter blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip3cGPbv0aRgk-XhuQdwYEXVtLI5-eoZshJ-s5uulmZCLpNHtrUp-MGmqBjvmUOS5oxX1XW8cseuc4aGzApoRh0Sy8Xmlg87lD3MRu4hYFL9cUPDgFW9vTMWTEQoWAO_sqK5lp3CajwKbg/s1600/welcome+back+starter+blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip3cGPbv0aRgk-XhuQdwYEXVtLI5-eoZshJ-s5uulmZCLpNHtrUp-MGmqBjvmUOS5oxX1XW8cseuc4aGzApoRh0Sy8Xmlg87lD3MRu4hYFL9cUPDgFW9vTMWTEQoWAO_sqK5lp3CajwKbg/s320/welcome+back+starter+blocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

I plan on starting the quilting process this weekend. My original plan was to start last weekend but I am having some stitch tension issues with my sewing machine. :(ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-89089994262144257812011-10-25T12:13:00.000-04:002011-10-25T12:13:41.983-04:00Ok...OkWell its bit quite awhile since my last post but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. Lets see...I finished the ornament mini quilt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaStU5ZLQBIHDkUA4MXLdbkp7lP0NAV2RdvhUJocqUfGHyiBa9iAS_219llx01068J8SBaB9462EzxQGxnGps7L3bmJ817p10Kwj4kYRT3E3ABUjZ-Zq-HzIwOTuT3a_0RYIcKjOHdkJyL/s1600/ornament+final.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaStU5ZLQBIHDkUA4MXLdbkp7lP0NAV2RdvhUJocqUfGHyiBa9iAS_219llx01068J8SBaB9462EzxQGxnGps7L3bmJ817p10Kwj4kYRT3E3ABUjZ-Zq-HzIwOTuT3a_0RYIcKjOHdkJyL/s320/ornament+final.JPG" width="289" /></a></div><br />
Created some row/block markers, to keep things straight when doing larger projects:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlfJ11y06wsaR71Ln-qasB2lL_xv25r6hPHqKhQjNOMcLJhprBWamc3gDzy8UnkDIvYTbxSFFxBVv8vVFJ3vVobnUy6O2rX4O3h6P4394IDz1GHaWUgWIAMvt5uDLkYkxmuwUo3FalccGF/s1600/row+markers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlfJ11y06wsaR71Ln-qasB2lL_xv25r6hPHqKhQjNOMcLJhprBWamc3gDzy8UnkDIvYTbxSFFxBVv8vVFJ3vVobnUy6O2rX4O3h6P4394IDz1GHaWUgWIAMvt5uDLkYkxmuwUo3FalccGF/s320/row+markers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And make a Queen sized body pillow for our bed. I made a pillow case for it as well, but here is the pillow itself made with red ticking:<br />
<br />

There are a few other things that I have started and I will show those in a later post.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-52556048452235036082011-07-21T09:42:00.001-04:002011-07-21T09:46:31.068-04:00Not quite doneDidn't quite finish the ornament wall quilt over the weekend. With any luck I'll shoot for this weekend. Here is how far I did get though...<br />
<br />
The appliques were sewn together in rows that look like this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB0vshAapmqw7HSINcNWe7SY8qVeHABtaRW3C1Li1lJXcHm8YJ2rklQtMRidVX6ThMQhiy99n6H9hIQu24rbNO-l9aHexC_BZSDtl1Yq7JGCNIfja-mpGwQKKPhdhepyWkadhVmquILg11/s1600/ornament+strip.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB0vshAapmqw7HSINcNWe7SY8qVeHABtaRW3C1Li1lJXcHm8YJ2rklQtMRidVX6ThMQhiy99n6H9hIQu24rbNO-l9aHexC_BZSDtl1Yq7JGCNIfja-mpGwQKKPhdhepyWkadhVmquILg11/s320/ornament+strip.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Then the rows were sewn together, seams pressed open, which became the basic top. It takes a little more time to press your seams open but I love the way the tops lays flat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeUA1fQch7cUJmtBmoRH7PbhVZPLQ3I3hsKZYTa0o7q7_b1nCcWM7XLmDU1Z6U7QrY_VQkTfd76GYqfUhzeXMltqjdiqHJVZKglk1_gyHi91HqCSoSilyJ8kXypCvpMaudpEcvJaNc0BXb/s1600/ornament+half+top.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeUA1fQch7cUJmtBmoRH7PbhVZPLQ3I3hsKZYTa0o7q7_b1nCcWM7XLmDU1Z6U7QrY_VQkTfd76GYqfUhzeXMltqjdiqHJVZKglk1_gyHi91HqCSoSilyJ8kXypCvpMaudpEcvJaNc0BXb/s320/ornament+half+top.JPG" width="266" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I then made some smaller ornaments and added those to the top which came out to look like this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbJgced1GwOldk9KY6DZycq2pzf-2fV_FpuKXtu3pT1PdmfOR5aBFsXshJeROLncKW0ANr4xa6I3y5OUJfWcpcKDGgjyUnTUP11gy0HeG_l_QxCv34am5yd0B2W25T7zNcyrS7P_-Xs_0p/s1600/ornament+top+2-3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbJgced1GwOldk9KY6DZycq2pzf-2fV_FpuKXtu3pT1PdmfOR5aBFsXshJeROLncKW0ANr4xa6I3y5OUJfWcpcKDGgjyUnTUP11gy0HeG_l_QxCv34am5yd0B2W25T7zNcyrS7P_-Xs_0p/s320/ornament+top+2-3.JPG" width="274" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<br />
I could just leave the top as is or add small templates to the outer edges, but I'm not sure which one I will do. I keep walking in and out of my sewing room, looking at the top on my design wall, waiting for it to 'speak' to me. I'm pretty sure that I will be on my own making this decision, though.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-81462558102378005262011-07-15T10:14:00.000-04:002011-07-15T10:14:23.312-04:00Ornament Wall QuiltOk, back to my quilting drawing board. It s been a minute (a very long one) but I was able to get back in my sewing room for awhile (man I missed it). Here is the start of my new project starts with this template:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgShtaa9k0I45EH0oj9uJG717nDybZUmoh35pu9YbEiDMJuyja2w0g_D42tE_xuQNocas5NOOmwNpqeNvdGsxBf69CBk1VBYPpsFgm8GWkp6j7HuPkGUoB8ZLKlLoLNw2XWQuThus9fAnLG/s1600/ornament+template.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgShtaa9k0I45EH0oj9uJG717nDybZUmoh35pu9YbEiDMJuyja2w0g_D42tE_xuQNocas5NOOmwNpqeNvdGsxBf69CBk1VBYPpsFgm8GWkp6j7HuPkGUoB8ZLKlLoLNw2XWQuThus9fAnLG/s320/ornament+template.JPG" width="289" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Using these fabrics and a few others:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje5Ks9-y_4bXXXvhJg2oEnQp_zEbPr1mq1rDDLFHmqRZ1bGpvHC9Jnj9u121EZ4F8gFUedKuZSB7iJHE-GWDZ6Dm9zJcHGUYSktvtk7y9fV-zQQlhdV-Ns1kt-c3MAqtmFsoz2A9aQsblW/s1600/ornament+fabric.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje5Ks9-y_4bXXXvhJg2oEnQp_zEbPr1mq1rDDLFHmqRZ1bGpvHC9Jnj9u121EZ4F8gFUedKuZSB7iJHE-GWDZ6Dm9zJcHGUYSktvtk7y9fV-zQQlhdV-Ns1kt-c3MAqtmFsoz2A9aQsblW/s320/ornament+fabric.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">They turn into appliques that look like this one:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSVwxGLmOxJrtmdGs2BxiH9ZBJJL_m-geLySiDNOc34T3EpBc_uz7JAdgpGehkhEGbXb__Sg-G5MsEUoosxDIvqmqyMhd27Q-NExWRiwFFJj0qtXbJ6zAXPI0UUb7aLpltN84MksjcmRn/s1600/ornament.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSVwxGLmOxJrtmdGs2BxiH9ZBJJL_m-geLySiDNOc34T3EpBc_uz7JAdgpGehkhEGbXb__Sg-G5MsEUoosxDIvqmqyMhd27Q-NExWRiwFFJj0qtXbJ6zAXPI0UUb7aLpltN84MksjcmRn/s320/ornament.JPG" width="311" /></a></div><br />
My aim of course is to complete the quilt this weekend. We'll see. Wish me luck!ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-72623462014007853852011-05-23T08:36:00.000-04:002011-05-23T08:36:32.890-04:00A little somethingI starting back on a small scale and made this little diddy for my husband. It is big enough both of our cell phones to fit comfortably. The next one I make I will use a heavier stabilizer. The basket holds its shape but I would like it be a little sturdier.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-62691576518658874362011-05-16T08:27:00.000-04:002011-05-16T08:27:50.707-04:00A little antsy!It has been over a month since my last post. Between family commitments and a sewing room rearrange I haven't really touched my new machine but to repair a pair of pants for my husband.Suffered a little withdrawal and a bit of anxiety; feeling 'I need to quilt so I can blog about it'. Sounds a little obsessive, doesn't it? Anyone else ever suffer from this? Just wondering. Well most of the last couple of weeks I've been with extended family. There was the Native American Pow-Wow in North Carolina. Here are a few pics from the Grand Entrance.<br />

Unfortunately since my work and its commute keep me out of the house for about 13 to 14 hours a day, I don't really get a chance to get back to my quilting until the weekends. Since most of the rearranging of my house and sewing room is nearly complete I should be able to get back to sewing this weekend...yaaaaaayyy!<br />

Hubby bought me a new sewing machine a few weeks ago. It has way more bells and whistles than my old one and I was so excited to use it. I should have practiced on my new machine for a while longer than I did because my plaid mini top did not turn out any where near like I wanted it to. I am almost ashamed to post the pic, but here it is...<br />

</a></div>Since I took the process pledge, I did promise to show the work, both good and bad and by the looks of this picture I need more practice with my new machine. Well its back to the drawing board for me and I will come back to this pattern later.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-41699803598093774602011-04-04T10:01:00.001-04:002011-04-11T09:11:13.209-04:00Plaid Anyone?I found a really cool plaid pattern that I fell in love with. Here are the strips that I am using for it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCUKbIi8glQgAcEOtbIVB55ElC7iC_F0MtlOqA5KaQrI3FImFAPROlfbLhSfY3n_eMt0gR9RVTQrloZuoR8Bu5P-l4Hlt_hoel-FR56yDMZqLRiGHW8mDFt3vC4jKqiaNrtM57elwenChk/s1600/Plaid+strips.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCUKbIi8glQgAcEOtbIVB55ElC7iC_F0MtlOqA5KaQrI3FImFAPROlfbLhSfY3n_eMt0gR9RVTQrloZuoR8Bu5P-l4Hlt_hoel-FR56yDMZqLRiGHW8mDFt3vC4jKqiaNrtM57elwenChk/s320/Plaid+strips.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And here is a test block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1SWeKemTETNEE87mC5_bMlLBRcj9ohb1fCYsTrD5mxa8kiCbxom07qUIZQEOIUGRk7fCWe_ba5kMD3_QNOlMcypAPln3-MS2Ea3dsflhXuHDJJtLLRoWJ56kb88vexhSys32QEPTTH0pt/s1600/Plaid+test+block.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1SWeKemTETNEE87mC5_bMlLBRcj9ohb1fCYsTrD5mxa8kiCbxom07qUIZQEOIUGRk7fCWe_ba5kMD3_QNOlMcypAPln3-MS2Ea3dsflhXuHDJJtLLRoWJ56kb88vexhSys32QEPTTH0pt/s320/Plaid+test+block.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
The block didn't quite turn out as accurate as I would have liked, so I am going to do a few more and turn them into...you guessed it...a mini.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-81980215371662229102011-03-17T15:00:00.001-04:002011-03-17T15:00:36.021-04:00Hubby's Lap QuiltFinally done. I gave hubby his lap quilt yesterday. He just loved it. In fact he loved it so much now he says he may want to use it as a wall quilt. Well...so long as he uses it, I guess. Here it is, both front and back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGfPQifPSg3TSbBntZBx25hv1sbmIUxCJXrV23apQn4vX-6DODZ9Nsmu21kjXKYqFWZis7UQg3jN5ab1thGVmnchYu8mBSKN_6qaIVvQ6d574Vj2Yn4r5bD1iKtC2pyOEpuW3PxXsEcQt2/s1600/hubby+lap+front.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGfPQifPSg3TSbBntZBx25hv1sbmIUxCJXrV23apQn4vX-6DODZ9Nsmu21kjXKYqFWZis7UQg3jN5ab1thGVmnchYu8mBSKN_6qaIVvQ6d574Vj2Yn4r5bD1iKtC2pyOEpuW3PxXsEcQt2/s320/hubby+lap+front.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal">Manly colors, don't you think. No where near the colors I would have chose for my self, but its a guy thing This whole quilt was very impromptu. I had no idea where I was going to go with making this quilt for him. All I had in the beginning was the symbol as you can see from my previous post.Once I came up with the idea for the front and finished it, I said to myself 'OK, what are you going to do for the back?'. As you can see, I pieced it. I actually kind of like the idea of a pieced back. It gives you more of an idea to play with how the back will look (that is, if the back will be shown).</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

I started a big one for him some time ago but it became such a huge undertaking that it became an UFO (in quilting terms, its an 'unfinished object'). Well that seemed a little unfair since he has indulged my obsession with fabric and pretty much anything quilting, without too much fuss, so I am in the process of making him a (a much smaller and more manageable) lap quilt. Here is a part of the center panel...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBadwIilzxBHQWsha448pQTywPSLkKtDVGlOmuKO4Lr72AVe3BIpKL7HeklXC1MI2wi0yD3tj8FW36lHLLtNG4_i8DVHdw6l2z4x8gxlQ28UWErFbapHj6E6PKXCYu-ONqXje1prgVt6ow/s1600/Except+for+God.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBadwIilzxBHQWsha448pQTywPSLkKtDVGlOmuKO4Lr72AVe3BIpKL7HeklXC1MI2wi0yD3tj8FW36lHLLtNG4_i8DVHdw6l2z4x8gxlQ28UWErFbapHj6E6PKXCYu-ONqXje1prgVt6ow/s320/Except+for+God.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Its a symbol that means 'Except for God'. A symbol of the omnipotence and immortality of God.<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;"></span><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></span>ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-31767798127657201412011-02-15T14:47:00.002-05:002011-02-15T15:04:43.718-05:00Forgotten PostWell I guess better late than never! I forgot to post the last two Christmas gifts I made. Life can be a little distracting at times, don't you think :)? They were both bed runners. I had finished this mini two weekends ago. I actually became enamored with the argyle pattern earlier this year (like that was so long ago) and decided to see if I could create one of my own. Here is the end result...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiywCNc7wl0IqkYpM0-jJQYFqEyb4OzrTbNGZHI6BkBh02qG8Nt8COmvF8luAfKiUL9VPZd4QFZPG0LVpgLvMBppRFIgHhuCksJVyY4k7cNTJz1VvAhJAOYRxVSIk0PB4tU-doF3K3Tg-_4/s1600/Argyle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiywCNc7wl0IqkYpM0-jJQYFqEyb4OzrTbNGZHI6BkBh02qG8Nt8COmvF8luAfKiUL9VPZd4QFZPG0LVpgLvMBppRFIgHhuCksJVyY4k7cNTJz1VvAhJAOYRxVSIk0PB4tU-doF3K3Tg-_4/s320/Argyle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Its very shadow-y so I will have to post a better picture soon. I used gray thread to quilt the top, thinking that white might be a little too much and as I look at it more and more I think I should have gone with the white instead. Oh well...you live and learn.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-61265623664755803322011-01-28T15:12:00.000-05:002011-01-28T15:12:44.835-05:00ArgyleHere is my rendition of and Argyle mini. There are a few others I have seen that inspired this one. This is only the top at the moment. I will be quilting it this weekend.<br />

Here it is in the WIP stage...<br />

Her name was Daisy...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSi-fB8DFYciI_HuK_xCZKbdCN_m_TX9SZFnzjRTxuUiRHjjuuMMx_98F8FOW-FUP7okfuerI8ztUTl5uVz6spcTZ91KZin7BwUDHtodbs6laRv3ESsLcKmZCekF2H_mFbmjyL1W9jtNpP/s1600/Daisey.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSi-fB8DFYciI_HuK_xCZKbdCN_m_TX9SZFnzjRTxuUiRHjjuuMMx_98F8FOW-FUP7okfuerI8ztUTl5uVz6spcTZ91KZin7BwUDHtodbs6laRv3ESsLcKmZCekF2H_mFbmjyL1W9jtNpP/s320/Daisey.jpg" width="294" /></a></div><br />
This is a picture of her in her younger days. She had been a part of our family for almost 7 years. We adopted her from the Virginia <a href="http://www.westierescue.com/">Westie Rescue</a> in 2004. She was 4 years old when we adopted her. She was taking a whole host of medication when we first adopted her for various illnesses. Fortunately for her and for us, most of her illnesses seemed to melt away once she understood that we loved and would take care of her. It turned out that all she really needed was the love and security of a good family. She was a very patient, caring and loving animal and she will be missed very much. God bless you Daisy girl!ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-60585848081998166542010-12-23T07:57:00.000-05:002010-12-23T07:57:09.968-05:00Unexpected SurpriseI came home on Tuesday to find these beautiful things waiting for me on my doorstep: A handmade, knitted hat and fingerless gloves set.<br />

Her Etsy site <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/heiress21">here</a>, but she is on vacation right now. Early Christmas gift for me! Yay!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Happy Holidays to All!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

Uh yeah, been there so many times I can't count. Should've started my 'handmade holidays' back in September but I over estimated how much time it would take to finish my gifts, given the fact that I don't get to touch my sewing machine, most times, til the weekends. Getting down to the wire here and running out of time fast, but I press on anyway. Here is a peak of a few of the other gifts I have been working on. Can't tell you which one is for who yet. But...<br />
<br />
here is the fabric and a block from the first gift.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_SFgFVTUnWGzcwwNs0cNM7oMyXxbywSHBEEs8qLYdRniUEY1SKgqD2-nCtZNWv9VaQbkHLvYa1VvmpYOUesLMRTHFzuv48GdgzN_V2C4gm-gg3LA5epJJYi0NyQqbZfMmk4glJekdou36/s1600/Gift+2+fab.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_SFgFVTUnWGzcwwNs0cNM7oMyXxbywSHBEEs8qLYdRniUEY1SKgqD2-nCtZNWv9VaQbkHLvYa1VvmpYOUesLMRTHFzuv48GdgzN_V2C4gm-gg3LA5epJJYi0NyQqbZfMmk4glJekdou36/s200/Gift+2+fab.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />

I'm a little behind actually. Including this one, I have 3 to make by Christmas day. I don't want to give too much away in case the family is peeking at my blog :).<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0FLEotE6JAt1CF7eDW07IYskOMSYQRCBrVPfwvDWlqG39eieBpSDcUvT7iCxmDcEZwrYzdxs3riG7LB35JYyC_cCtt1yR5TBugqlNZmonsaaNMwVxFliH4efBD1XDkYFSbnoPrA4ZZOma/s1600/Diamond+blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0FLEotE6JAt1CF7eDW07IYskOMSYQRCBrVPfwvDWlqG39eieBpSDcUvT7iCxmDcEZwrYzdxs3riG7LB35JYyC_cCtt1yR5TBugqlNZmonsaaNMwVxFliH4efBD1XDkYFSbnoPrA4ZZOma/s320/Diamond+blocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I was sort of bitten by the Handmade Holidays 'bug' last Christmas and handmade most of the gifts for my family.ZenMuffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03571421381697499260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-829935833347935842.post-61324201532019019972010-12-06T12:11:00.001-05:002010-12-06T12:16:58.449-05:00First One DownMy first Christmas gift is done! It was actually done a few days ago but I was under the weather for a good portion of last week. Getting better day by day but it has been sooooo slow. Here it is folded, ready for gift wrapping, bagging or what ever it is I decide to do with it when I am ready to give out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha9b7zltql10rQqkqLSDarZN3P1PCWRvw49a1s_dW3Jkrzs2imIVD6AU5wDm5rv_F1AZffWIoLafdg_jgdlOvFOtkKkSHe5opoWuewjY1tEIHszffvZWpU7UoWcSZXEPJ2Vp8wTIsVPyHo/s1600/Purple+Maj+finalfold.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha9b7zltql10rQqkqLSDarZN3P1PCWRvw49a1s_dW3Jkrzs2imIVD6AU5wDm5rv_F1AZffWIoLafdg_jgdlOvFOtkKkSHe5opoWuewjY1tEIHszffvZWpU7UoWcSZXEPJ2Vp8wTIsVPyHo/s1600/Purple+Maj+finalfold.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha9b7zltql10rQqkqLSDarZN3P1PCWRvw49a1s_dW3Jkrzs2imIVD6AU5wDm5rv_F1AZffWIoLafdg_jgdlOvFOtkKkSHe5opoWuewjY1tEIHszffvZWpU7UoWcSZXEPJ2Vp8wTIsVPyHo/s320/Purple+Maj+finalfold.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>And here it is full out. Its for my mother-in-law, for Christmas. It took me a little longer than it should have to get to this point. I think the quilting part scares me a little. I don't meander/stipple that often so when I decide to actually use it on a quilt, I sort of psych myself out and procrastinate (which I am really good at) :). I prepared it for binding last night and it just waits for me to start that process.<br />
